“Start with Hello” Weekis September 23 – 27, 2019. The “Start with Hello” project was created 4 years ago by the Sandy Hook Promise organization, which is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.
The idea behind Start with Hello is to help promote social connectivity and inclusiveness by reducing social isolation. As many of us know, young people who are isolated can become victims of bullying, violence, depression and other issues. They may pull away from society, experience learning and social difficulties, and may turn to hurting themselves or others.
Throughout the week, we encourage you to engage in various activities to promote kindness and positivity by spreading the Start with Hello message: “See someone alone, reach out, and start by saying hello.” Use this planning guideas a resource.
Friday, 9/27 is ‘Wear Green Day’. Green is the official color of the Sandy Hook Promise and national color for this initiative. We encourage students nationwide to wear green to increase awareness and show support for Start with Hello week.
Start with Hello can be a year-round initiative. If you would like to book a live speaker, program or workshop for students, parents and/or teachers, to help with emotional social learning skills, anti-bullying, or other topics, please contact CoolSpeak today.
